Phyllis Largent 1922 - 2015

Phyllis Vermillion was born June 11, 1922 in Hussar, Alberta Canada, the daughter of Shay and Grace Vermillion. 

In the summer of 1941 she came to the USA to visit some friends of the family, Lola & Benny Wall at Palouse, Washington.  This was at the mere age of eighteen. Phyllis went to a party with those friends where she was to meet Bill Largent for the first time. They were married on December 10, 1944. They lived in Canada a short time to help Phyllis’s mother with the farm after her Dad passed away suddenly.

Then it was back to the Palouse country for a couple of years. It was there in 1946 that George was born. They then moved to Keller, WA. Where Bill went to work for Ring Brothers Rodeo Stock.  In 1949 their daughter, Vicki was born.

In 1958 they moved to Kewa, WA.  And bought the grocery store and the freight line. She also became the Postmaster.  In the fall of 1959 her mother and brother James moved from Canada to a place next to them.  In 1966 they sold the store and freight line and soon after moved to Wilmont Creek. Where they farmed and raised cows and horses.  Soon after that she went to work for the Inchelium School as the head cook.   One year she was Mother of the Year.  She worked there for seventeen years before she retired.

Bill was diagnosed with cancer in 1994. He battled hard but lost that battle May 27, 1998.  In 1999 she moved to Kettle Falls, WA.  She always wanted to travel so that is what she did with friends and family. She cruised the Caribbean, Alaska, Mexico, Hawaii and more. Went to Branson, Missouri 2 times, to New York, and to Pennsylvania to the Amish country.

Phyllis is survived by her children George (Cheryl) Largent. Daughter Vicki (Jeff) Ross. 7 grand children, Dorene Bowe, Renae Walsh, Joshua (Corey) Millard, Chad (Susie) Largent, Jennifer (Dave)Farnam, Scott Largent, Lisa Largent. 11 Great grandchildren, Jessica, Savannah, Reilley, Abby, Maisy, Lane, Libby, Cody, Wyatt, Shaylee and Drew, and her beloved dog Mindy.

A memorial service will be November 13, 2015 at 1:00p.m. at the Legionnaire Building West of Kettle Falls on highway 395 with a lunch following   Memorial donations can be made to your favorite charity.
