Mike Largent & Shaelene Gillenwater Wedding

Mike Largent & Shaelene Gillenwater were wed 2 Sep 2011 in Crane Oregon's Mormon Church. Bride and groom were beaming for the photos, but my camera's problems will be evident.

Getting There was a challenge for Pat and Karen. Karen volunteered to get the Mother-of-the-Groom and picked here up in Waitsburg at 1015. Karen brought no map, but Pat was named Navigator and had a small MapQuest map specifically run to avoid going thru Pendleton, why, I do not know. They went to LaGrande and zig zagged through the Blue Mountains arriving at the 6:00 p.m. wedding at 7:50- just as clean up of the reception was ending. Googlemaps estimates driving time at 5:30, but the scenic route took 8 hours!. Shaelene was glad to meet Pat and Karen, but they missed almost everyone else.

Growing Older? I overheard part of an introduction as Karen went into the kitchen introducing herself as a relative of Mike's to the half dozen people finishing cleanup. As one of Shaelene's friends met Karen she asked, "are you his mother or grandmother?" Stunned, Karen stepped into the dining area where she announced "There's a woman in the kitchen who thinks I'm Mike's grandmother! That means she thinks I look at least 100 whether I'm Pat or Harold's mother!" Mike immediately started calling Karen "Grandma". Shaelene's friend tried back-peddling, but what could be said? So, if Mike is addressing Karen as "Grandma" at the next reunion, you'll know why.

The children loved her, and she enjoyed helping children learn and grow. She had recently begun her own schooling to complete a teaching degree.

Kathy loved dogs and cats as pets, and had several. Like her mother, she would do anything for anyone and gave her time and possessions willingly. She would often work a second job so she had more to give, and was headed to that 2nd job the morning of the wreck.
